Asset management for mobile devices like laptops and PDA’s presents a new challenge. Before, in times that are now gone, IT equipment wasn’t mobile. For example, you wouldn’t normally take your desktop computer with you on a business trip.

This news piece states that “The fundamental features of asset management are pretty much the same for mobile devices as they are for networked, hardwired systems: discovery, configuration and software management, help-desk and repair tools, and security. ” They used and reviewed three asset management software packages: Altiris’ Handheld Management Suite, LANDesk Software’s LANDesk Management Suite and Novell’s ZENworks Suite.
